Day 2!
I wrote last Friday that I was going to quit Diet Coke today, Monday, February 25. I’ve been ramping down and drinking a lot more water in anticipation of “D-Day” (Dump Day). I decided to give myself a little test yesterday, and see how long I could go without drinking Diet Coke. I was surprised that I went the entire day with no Diet Coke. Wow! I was more ready than I thought! Thus, today is officially Day 2 of #DumpDietCoke for me!
I also met a few friends on Twitter who are also quitting Diet Coke. We’re going to check in with each other once a day with the Twitter hashtag #DumpDietCoke. The encouragement and support we can offer to each other will be very helpful while we make it through the difficult first 2-3 weeks.
On Saturday evening, I prepared my family for the possible side effects of quitting the aspartame and caffeine I am so addicted to. I explained to the kids, “I may be a little grouchy this week.” Not missing a beat, Miss Sassy Pants replied, “You mean it’s going to get worse!?!?” Oy! That girl!
Also on Twitter, a web site named MapsofWorld.com shared an eye-opening infographic with me. It details the dangers of diet soda and the possible health effects. I plan to refer to it every time I feel a little bit weak! Take a look at this below.

Hey there, it’s @runnerlisa from Twitter and just wanted to say good luck again. I really need to kick my habit too but it’s so damn hard! Very cool infographic; I’m off to read the Huffington Post article.
Thanks, Lisa! I’m going to read that Huff Post article, too – sounds really interesting! Once you start reading about all of the bad things that diet sodas do to your body, it really makes you wonder. Look forward to hearing more from you!
So glad you’re off to such a good start, Wendy! Attitude really helps get through the rough patches. I quit back in December – for the 2nd time in my life. I’ve been having sleep issues for about a year now and I was hoping getting rid of the caffeine would help. After the first week or 10 days, it really does get to the point where you don’t think about it anymore. I’ve had a tea and even a Dr. Pepper (my evil drink of choice) at a restaurant. After being off of it for a while, I was able to just enjoy a few sips and know it was enough. And so far (knock on wood) no relapses. :+)
Keep at it Wendy and know I’m pulling for you too.
