Coffee Pushing Water Around

#DumpDietCoke: Day 13

In many ways, dumping Diet Coke has been easier than I expected. My two-week ramp down prior to the quit date helped a lot. Motrin is my BFF right now – to fight off the headaches associated with caffeine withdrawal.

I’ve had Diet Coke two times in the 13 days. Once, when I was on a date with my husband. We always get breakfast tacos and have Diet Coke. I expected to be overjoyed to be drinking Diet Coke. Surprisingly, the Diet Coke was just not “all that.” The second time I’ve had Diet Coke is this morning. I had a killer migraine last night that lingered a bit this morning. I’ve heard that caffeine can help you get over a migraine, so I’m trying a little Diet Coke for that. It does seem to be helping, but once again, I am having the “wow – it’s not all that I had it pumped up to be” experience. That’s good!

Despite having Diet Coke two times, I feel confident that I’ve broken much of the physical addiction. The primary challenge now is the behavioral issues. For example, I always have Diet Coke when we have breakfast tacos. So, I can either stop having breakfast tacos (do what??!?!?) or I can learn to enjoy them without Diet Coke. These habits developed over 12 years, so modifying these is going to take some time.

Running with a jogging stroller

Jog Stroller Moms (and Dads!)

I’m honestly glad my jog stroller days are behind me – but I admire the moms and dads who use jog strollers to maintain their fitness efforts!

Rookie Runner

Rookie Runner?

So true! When I started running, I constantly posted on Facebook about running. My friends enabled me, though, by always encouraging me. That’s part of what kept me running!

I still tweet about my miles and post on FB. I don’t have a huge following, so the encouragement I get is meaningful… And they say it inspires them, so it’s a double win. I don’t care if it makes me seem like a “rookie runner.” I’m a runner and that’s what matters. I could care less what other people think. :)

Good for you for giving up soda! I have it so rarely that it is a treat when I go out. I love a good Pepsi from the fountain, but only one… if I get a refill, my belly makes me pay!

  2. Yes, it motivates me to run a bit more if
I blog. I love the picture of the two
women. The woman on the “right” looks like
me when I was younger. I noticed that the
woman on the left was holding a large water
bottle. That would be too large to carry
for one person. I finally learned to carry
a small bottle on long runs.Elaine Stewart
