Good Things Come To Those Who Plank

I Never Thought Doing Planks Could Be So Much Fun

The One Tough Mother Runner #PlanksALot Challenge started on January 7, and we have over 60 “Planksters” participating in this challenge. Although this is a challenge designed for beginners, we definitely have a few planking “masters” in our group as well.

Many are checking in via Twitter with the #PlanksALot hashtag. Those who do are getting lots of encouragement from the other Planksters. We also have some who are checking in via email. Overall, we’re all getting firmer abs, and we’re developing friendships with good people. What could be better?

This Is Why We Plank

After only a few days of doing planks, I’ve discovered a noticeable difference in my abs. They are tighter, and I feel much stronger in my core. Looking at the image above, I can see why planks are so effective. They are working a lot of muscle groups! Here’s a list of the key benefits of doing planks.

1. Works your upper abs, your lower abs, your obliques, and your lower back.
2. Builds the stabilizer muscles.
3. Builds strength for pushups.
4. Promotes good posture and helps prevent back injuries.
5. Teaches your abs to stay contracted in a regular standing position.

  6. Cheri says:

Thanks for keeping us going, Wendy! I don’t think I posted yesterday, and I almost forgot to even do my plank today (b/c I was a complete slug!), but I’m getting a little stronger every day! I have to say that I never thought I’d be able to keep up with the schedule, but I’m doing it so far.
