My Running Hero: #261

Katherine Switzer

Katherine Switzer, the first official female entrant to the Boston Marathon in 1967, with race bib number 261, has an amazing story to tell. She’ll be sharing her story tonight on PBS on Makers: Women Who Make America, a documentary about trailblazing women who changed the world we live in. Katherine Switzer also played a significant role in allowing women to run the marathon in the Olympics.

Hearing her story makes me wonder if I would have had the courage to act as she did, and what are the things I can do now as a trailblazer to change my world.

Here’s a preview of her story.

Makers: Women Who Make America will air tonight on PBS at 8:00 pm ET/7:00 pm CT. It’s three hours long. I’ve already set my DVR! I definitely plan on having the kids watch it with me.

The PBS web page featuring Katherine Switzer’s interview also includes a number of other clips from her interview can be found at http://www.makers.com/kathrine-switzer.
