One of the first lessons we all learn as runners is to carry water with us. It’s important to have proper hydration while running, but it’s also important to us as runners to carry the water in a way that is convenient, comfortable and not in our way.
There are lots of systems out there to carry your water. For my money, I’m a fan of the Nathan Sports product line of water bottles. My husband is a Fuel Belt fan, but I find those bottles too small.
Nathan Sports Triangle Hydration Belt
For any run over 30 minutes, I carry the Nathan Triangle Water Belt. The nylon construction of the belt is solid, and withstands a lot of abuse.
The belt holds a 22 ounce bottle that is positioned at an angle for easy access when you are running. The holster is insulated around the bottle – nice to keep my water cool during summer runs. Additionally, the back is padded which makes it very comfortable on your back when you are running.
The plastic bottle easily fits in the top rack of the dishwasher and is easy to clean. I also like that the stopper on the top is made out of a bright pink rubbery material. It matches the rest of the belt, and it’s easy to grab with your teeth to open the bottle. There are no rough edges when you drink.
The belt also has a small zippered mesh pocket with a key hook inside the pocket. I can tell you that the mesh is very durable because I have stuffed a lot of things in that little pocket. It’s perfect for your keys, 1-2 packs of chomps or Sports Beans, some cash, and Chapstick. When I’m running, I have a terrible habit of becoming obsessed with where my car keys are, wanting to be certain that I haven’t lost them. With the hook inside the mesh pocket, this is no longer an issue for me. A little peace of mind can go a long way!
The belt itself wraps around the waist comfortable and has a nice large plastic clip in the front. It’s easily adjustable and fits many different sizes of runners.
My Triangle Hydration Belt is pink, my “signature running color.” (We all have a signature running color, right?). The belt also comes in black, purple, green and blue.
Nathan Sports also has a line of reflective products to enhance runner safety. They also build reflective components into all of their hydration belts. I really appreciate this attention to detail to keep me just a little bit safer while I’m out on the road. There is also a built-in, non-removable ID tag in the belt. Once again, Nathan Sports thinks of the little details to make a high quality product.
Recommendation
The Nathan Sports Triangle Hydration Belt is a great addition to the running gear collection of any runner. It’s particularly good for runs in the 1 hour – 2 hour range. It’s comfortable and very well constructed, which leads to great durability over the long term.
