Every Friday at One Tough Mother Runner, I share the results of the most recent #RunSurvey. This past week, I looked at where runners get their information about running. It’s always interesting to ask these questions, and I love to see the results. If you have suggestions for topics you’d like to see on #RunSurvey, drop me a line at OneToughMotherRunner@gmail.com.

Question 1: Identify the sources where you obtain information about running?
This was a question where readers could select more than one option. Runner’s World dominated the sources as the top source of information – including both the magazine and the web site. Each (magazine and the web site) garnered 67% of the responses.
Running blogs and google searches came in at 54% and 50% respectively. Local running stores represented 41% of the responses.
Two sources that I did not include in the list, but were included in the responses, were Canadian Running Magazine and Reddit. Both interesting sources!
Question 2: What is your preferred source of information?
The two responses that were the clear majority here were the Runner’s World web site, and asking your coach.
Question 3: If you read running blogs, how many do you read/follow?
Interesting responses here. The responses ranged from 1 (who me? only me?) to 30! On average, the survey responders read 7 running blogs. As a follow up, question 4 asked how you like to read/receive your blogs. Forty-four percent said they like to look up the blog when they want to read it, 36% said they like to get it by email, and 20% said they like to read it through RSS. Personally, I like to get my blogs through email. I like it to come to me.
Question 5: Do you participate in Twitter Chats?
Only 23% of the readers participate in Twitter Chats. Forty-eight percent said no, and 20% have no idea what a Twitter Chat is. I think that reflects in general the amount of people who are on Twitter. Not everyone is on Twitter, but those who are are typically more engaged with these types of engagements.
Question 6: What is the best running book you’ve read?
I was excited to ask this question to get a list of books that would be great for runners. Here’s what my readers said:
Mention 5 times in the responses: Born to Run (especially helpful for us slower runners – puts everything in perspective)
Mentioned 4 times in the responses: Complete Book of Running for Women (and another publication by Runner’s World)
Others in no particular order:
Running: The Complete Guide to Building Your Running Program by John Stanton
Kara Goucher’s Running for Women
A Life Without Limits by Chrisse Wellington
Running the Edge by Adam Goucher & Tim Catalano
To the Edge by Kirk Johnson
Run Like a Mother
Chi Running
Ultramarathon Man by Dan Karnazes
The Non-Runner’s Marathon Trainer and Run Faster
Daniels Running Formula
My Life on the Run by Bart Yasso
I don’t know about you, but I always like to read a book synopsis on Amazon, and I like to read the reviews – both good and bad. So, I’ve compiled these books into an Amazon widget to include in this blog post.

Updates From the February #RunnerPhotos Challenge
Seeing lots of great photos for today’s theme: Running Shoes. I’ll share some of my favorites each day at the end of the blog.
Rtdanielle09 showed us that it is awesome to have one pair of Brooks for each day of the week. She blogs at http://Danielle09justdoit.blogspot.com.
Michelle at RunFor3Point1 revealed her very organized collection of running shoes. She blogs at http://www.mindbodyandgoal.net.
Lauren at MostlyIRun shoes off her awesome collection. She blogs at http://MostlyIRun.com.
And I showed running shoes for each member of our family. Funny story about this. Right after I took the picture at 7:30 am this morning, the Fashion Queen was looking for her shoes for P.E. today. When I told her that they were on the porch, she fussed at me, “Mom! Those shoes cost $120!! Please don’t do that again!” A bit of role reversal for us!
And great thanks to my blogger friend, Evelin, who shared about the photo challenge on her blog today at http://evelinruns.wordpress.com.

Wow! All those books on running – amazing! Wonder is they have them for walking too?
I have to check out some walking sites. I did want to say that I cycled for 70 + miles this week, getting ready for walking season.
Just checking in for THWC
