Running and Charity
As runners, we’re a very charitable lot. We run in races that support causes we believe in and we help bring awareness to those causes. It’s all good stuff.
Now, thanks to Charity Miles, a clever iPhone/Android app, you can turn your daily training runs into runs that benefit charity.
The premise behind Charity Miles is simple. You download the app onto your phone. When you go out for your next run, turn on the GPS-enabled app, and it will track your distance. Each mile run results in a 25 cent donation to one of a number of reputable, well-known charities. When you’ve finished your run, you accept the donation from your sponsor by sharing your run on Facebook or Twitter. You’re spreading the word about your cause, and about Charity Miles.
Who You Can Support
Although I like all of the charities supported by Charity Miles, my two favorites are Autism Speaks and The Wounded Warrior Project.

My Challenge To You
The premise behind Charity Miles is so simple, I can’t imagine why we don’t all use it every day when we run. Therein lies my challenge to you – I challenge you to download and use Charity Miles every time you run for the next 14 days. Just think of all the good you can do for others, while you are running and doing good for yourself.

This is awesome.
I love it – the variety of charities is great, and they are all very reputable organizations.

This is a great app and concept! Thanks for sharing this…I’ve been doing much of my running on the treadmill as of late because I don’t particularly care for cold weather running but this might get me back outside.
Appreciate your comment, Marc! I can understand not enjoying cold weather running – especially because you’re probably digging out from “Nemo” this morning! The app also includes options for walking and bicycling (at different rates per mile).
This sounds awesome, I’ll have to check that out.
Thanks for your comment, Stephanie. I’d love to hear what you think about it when you check it out!
